Dictionary of Composers' Writings

DICTECO is a digital application devoted to composers' writings. It will serve as a guide to composers' writings for students, researchers, musicians, and music-lovers. It includes two parts : a dictionary and a databse.

Dictionary

The dictionary in progress is classified alphabeticaly by name of composer. A general presentation will be attached to each composer's name. Each of the composer’s books will be the subject of a specific entry. These different entries can be downloaded as a PDF document.

Database

The main goal of the database in progress is to inventory composers' main writings :
Dicteco links to BOOKS (volumes published or prepared by composers during their lives, such as treatises, memoirs, essays, collections of music criticsm, etc.), to BOOK CHAPTERS (short contributions to books written by other authors), to ANTHOLOGIES (edited volumes of writings or correspondence collected by third parties), to ARTICLES (published in the press), to MUSICAL PARATEXTS (prefaces, programs, notes, etc.), and to other DOCUMENTS written by composers (reports, conference papers, etc.).

To identify the existing digital versions of composers' writings
Dicteco makes it easier to read composers' writings in the public domain by creating links to the different digital versions of texts currently available online.

Dicteco also inventories the various translations of these different writings.

The database can be consulted in different ways : by composer, by categories of writings, by genres (autobiography, criticism, pamphlet, survey response,…).  The research bar also allows thematic queries to be launched (for example « piano », « Cortot », « education »…).
